Musik (Music): Delicious Florentine Cookies
When I think of Christmas cookies, my mind often wanders to gingerbread and peppermint-flavored treats. However, one of my favorite cookies to enjoy year-round are Florentine cookies. They are a wonderful blend of nutty and sweet, with a crunchy texture that just melts in your mouth. These cookies are not a traditional Christmas recipe, but they are often associated with the holiday season since they can be a common sight on cookie trays. You can buy them year-round, find them at your local bakery, or make them at home yourself.
To start making these delicious cookies, you will need a dough to work with. First, mix together 150 grams of flour, 50 grams of sugar, one packet of vanilla sugar, 75 grams of butter/margarine, and one egg. After it is fully incorporated, roll the dough out and cut circles in various sizes for your Florentine bases. Bake these in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for six to eight minutes, or until they are slightly golden brown.
While the bases are baking, it’s time to prepare the filling. Melt 60 grams of sugar, 60 grams of butter, and two tablespoons of honey in a pot. Then, add in 130 milliliters of cream, 50 grams of chopped almonds, 50 grams of chopped hazelnuts, and whichever dried fruits you prefer. Stir the mixture until everything is well combined and has thickened up into a nice consistency.
Now that both the bases and the filling are ready, place a spoonful of it on top of each Florentine cookie. Once the cookies are fully coated, bake them again until the mixture is fully set. After they have cooled a bit, it’s time to add a final touch of chocolate. Melt chocolate or use icing to spread over the Florentines and use a fork to make the signature wavy pattern on top.
These cookies are perfect for giving as gifts or bringing with you as a dessert to any party or celebration. They can be stored in a container for a week or two, but they will likely be eaten up long before then. Enjoy these delicious Florentine cookies any time of the year!
