Immer mehr Menschen greifen beim Grillen auf Kontaktgrills zurück. Doch nicht alle Geräte eignen sich gleichermaßen für jede Art von Grillgut. In the Hamburg Grill Kontor, Dirk and Mitch, two trained chefs, try out five different contact grills. They begin with the cheapest one, which costs 17 euros 99 cents at the drugstore Rossmann. The Bohmann sandwich maker, which costs 30 euros 99 cents, can grill besides sandwiches. The silvercrest contact grill can be purchased online for 39 euros 99 cents at Lidl. The old contact grill is the most expensive, costing 68 euros 99 cents, while the Tefal Grill is the most extravagant, costing 99 euros.
They start with the first candidate, the Rossmann grill, which they have to clean before use. However, they are surprised to find out that this grill is meant only for making paninis and not for grilling meat. The grill is not suitable for larger steaks, and it is not recommended by the manufacturer to try using it for this purpose.
They move on to testing the Bohmann grill, which they find a bit tricky to use. If you close the lid, it makes the meat dry and hard. Moreover, they notice that some of the juice from the meat is squeezed out.
The silvercrest grill is the next machine they try, and it works impressively well. It grills both sides of the meat perfectly, and the final product looks very appetizing. The steak they grill using this machine tastes quite good, too.
They move onto the golden grill by Lidl, which has a heavy lid that helps to squeeze the juice out of the meat while cooking. Unfortunately, this makes the meat a bit tough and dry, which is not something they expected.
Finally, they try the Tefal Grill, which is the most expensive machine of all. This grill has electronic features and several buttons that make the process very easy for the user. However, they note that the flavor of the meat is not as good as it should be. The meat comes out quite bland, which they attribute to the machine expelling too much fat during the cooking process.
The verdict on the five contact grills is that none of them are perfect, as each has its advantages and disadvantages. While some of them are cheaper than others, their grilling abilities are not as satisfactory. On the other hand, some of the more expensive machines do not offer the best value for the money as the results are not always as flavorful as they could be.
Aside from the grill’s performance, the students from the Hamburg-Altona vocational school, along with their teachers, take apart the grills to inspect their internal structure. They detect a few concerns, such as loose screws and short, ungrounded wires, in some of the machines. Lidl, Tefal, and Rossmann respond to their inquiries, stating the issue will be resolved.
In conclusion, the Hamburg Grill Kontor’s test results of the contact grills show that some of the expensive grills do not perform much better than the cheaper ones. It is clear that good meat flavor depends not only on the quality of the grill but also on the cooking method and the skill of the chef.
