Hey and welcome to Back Welt! Today, we’re baking some delicious Christmas cookies, which always sweeten up our holiday season. Especially the colorful, decorated cut-out cookies bring us so much joy in preparing them. So, let’s get started with the ingredients and I wish you lots of fun!

To make these cookies, I always use 500 grams of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 180 grams of sugar, 1 packet of vanilla sugar, 250 grams of cold butter, and 2 eggs. First, I cream the butter with the sugar and vanilla sugar, then add the eggs. I switch to the dough hook and mix the baking powder with the flour before adding it into the mixture. Then, I knead the dough by hand until it becomes smooth. I wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for about 60 minutes.

You can also make the dough a few days ahead of time, but make sure to keep it refrigerated until ready to use. Now, I take out one half of the dough and knead it again before rolling it out on a floured surface to about half a centimeter thickness. To prevent the dough from sticking to the cookie cutters, I dip them in flour occasionally. From this recipe, I was able to make exactly 65 cookies.

I place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake them at 180 degrees for 10-12 minutes in a preheated oven. The baking time may vary depending on how thick the cookies are, but be careful not to overcook them. Once the cookies have cooled completely, I decorate them with chocolate glaze, powdered sugar glaze, and colorful sprinkles. And that’s it!
