E-Rezept – So gehts!
We recently placed an ad for the AZ with the headline “ER Rezepte” and we received a lot of calls from pharmacies asking about the concept. They were curious if we could speak convincingly about it and if it was really worth the effort, as they learned from the press that we had to make a lot of changes to the way we operate our pharmacy. In today’s presentation, we will discuss the ER Rezepte concept in depth, including how we integrated it into our pharmacy workflow and the benefits it offers to our customers.
The first thing we did when we started developing the ER Rezepte concept about a year ago was to consider what questions and requirements the pharmacies might have. We contacted them to identify the key aspects that would make this concept user-friendly, intuitive and compliant with Muster 16 (the standard format in Germany for prescriptions). We learned that the operation of the device must be simple, intuitive and follow Muster 16 format as much as possible.
During this presentation, we will use our access program and demonstrate how we have addressed these issues. We will also demonstrate how we have solved the problem by integrating a scanner that is used by 90% of our customers. One critical feature of the scanner allows us to read and store patient data on the electronic prescription, whilst enabling the pharmacy to carry out discount contract analysis automatically.
Using Muster 16 as our starting point, we then looked at what changes would be required to meet the needs of this new electronic prescription format. The first step was to test the user interface and made sure that it was as easy to operate as possible.
From our presentation, it is apparent that the ER Rezepte system is very close to the format of Muster 16 paper prescriptions. The patient will receive an electronic version of the prescription with the same information layout as on the paper Muster 16 prescription. One key difference is that the HCP signature is replaced by a qualified electronic signature during the electronic transfer of the prescription data from the HCP to the RezeptFachdienst.
As soon as the pharmacies receive the electronic prescription data, they can verify the information and analyze the discount contracts available. The prescription can then be processed exactly as if it were a paper prescription. One convenient feature for the pharmacy is that they can modify the individual orders within the prescription without changing the overall prescription structure. This means that unnecessary medicine or dosages can be adjusted without altering the electronic prescription, making it more efficient to manage and more precise for the patient.
Once the analysis and discount contract checking process is completed, the medication can be issued to the patient, and the electronic prescription is automatically updated with the pharmacy’s markings of completion. If needed, the pharmacy can then give the electronic prescription paper back to the customer, stating it is void and has no further use.
In conclusion, we believe that the ER Rezepte concept is an easy-to-use, efficient and reliable system that will benefit both pharmacies and their customers. By adopting this new format, pharmacies can improve their customer satisfaction and offer better and more accurate patient care while streamlining their workflow. We are confident that the benefits of the ER Rezepte system are well worth the effort needed to implement it in pharmacies across Germany.
