Daal - Indisches Linsengericht / Dani’s Dishes

In this video, Dennis shows us how to make a delicious and easy Indian lentil dish called dahl. This recipe is perfect for those who come home from school, work or university late and don’t want to spend too much time cooking. To make this dish, you will need 100 grams of red lentils and 100 grams of yellow lentils, which can be mixed. In addition, you will need three tomatoes, some chili, ginger, three cloves of garlic and two onions.

The most important part of this recipe is the spices, and you’ll need a teaspoon of cumin, a teaspoon of ground coriander, a teaspoon of turmeric, 1 bay leaf, a quarter to half a teaspoon of chili, a teaspoon of kademo sala, and some water. First, soak the lentils in cold water while you finely chop the onions and crush the garlic and ginger.

Heat up some oil in a pan and add the cumin. Once it browns, add the onions and garlic ginger paste and cook until browned. Add the remaining spices, along with some salt, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Add the tomatoes to the pan and just enough water to cover the ingredients. Let it simmer for 4-5 minutes.

Drain the lentils and add them to the pan, stirring in the spice mixture, or masala. Gradually add four small cups of water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat, cover the pan and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the lentils are soft and the mixture is thick.

Serve hot with some rice, naan bread, or even a soft roll. This recipe is simple, flavorful and perfect for a quick meal after a long day. Don’t forget to add salt to taste and adjust the spices if needed!
