UNSER OMNIA | 8 Tipps & Tricks für den Campingbackofen

Translation:

After a week of constant rain, the sun has finally come out again today, but during this week of rain, things have been steaming up in our PUC (portable kitchen unit). We have experienced open vegetables or spoiled food, which is not acceptable. This video isn’t about recipes, but about eight tips and tricks that make cooking and baking with the Omnia much easier. After over a year of usage, we have gained a lot of experience and knowledge, including certain tools and equipment, and of course, Mister Equipment is with us. So, let’s get started.

Our first trick is for cleaning the silicone mold. You may have experienced a situation where you made a savory dish with garlic or bread, and the mold still smells like that dish, but you want to bake something sweet next. To get rid of that smell, we have tried various methods and found an old household remedy, which involves sprinkling baking powder generously in the mold, followed by pouring hot water on it and letting it sit for a while. The baking powder helps eliminate the odor, and when the smell is gone, take a sponge and gently clean it. It’s a perfect solution for cleaning the mold, and we highly recommend it.

Now, let’s move on to silicone molds. Many of you have asked us if we recommend using silicone molds, and the answer is a definite yes. As we have just seen, they are easy to clean and practical for baking cakes or bread because the baked good can be easily removed from the mold without greasing it. However, there is one thing to consider when using a silicone mold. Suppose you’ve baked a cake, and it’s still in the mold, and you think, “I’ll just cut a small piece here.” We’ve tested it for you, and it is essential to avoid cutting the mold with a knife because it can be damaged. Instead, use a lid to flip the mold over and remove the cake gently. The lid also stands perfectly on a smooth surface, and then you can use oven mitts or a towel to handle the hot mold.

Let’s discuss baking times. We have found that for bread and cake, in particular, people start by turning on the flame to the maximum intensity for about five minutes. Then it is vital not to open the lid, even if you’re eager to see how the bread or cake is doing because the heat generated from the high flame may have escaped. After five minutes, turn the flame down to the lowest intensity and let it bake for another 20-30 minutes, depending on the recipe. By doing this, you are ensuring that there is enough heat for the bread or cake to bake evenly, but not so much that it burns.

Now, to our last tip before I hand over to Mister Equipment. Suppose you have an oven recipe that you want to use for the Omnia. In that case, it’s crucial to know how much dough fits in the Omnia. We have found that recipes with 500 grams of flour work perfectly. When converting recipes, make sure that the recipe accounts for 500 grams of flour, and it should work fine. We were also asked about using baking mixes, and the answer is yes; baking mixtures work well. Just make sure that the mix is suitable for 500 grams of flour.

Mister Equipment has two more small tips. Firstly, when it comes to measuring flour, milk, or other ingredients, a measuring cup is not always the best option. Therefore, we recommend using a small and lightweight scale that can weigh up to five kilograms, like the one from Sundo, which we’ve linked in the video description. Finally, when cutting bread, if you start slicing the loaf from the end, the slices get smaller and smaller as you go, which we found frustrating. Instead, slice the bread on the side, avoiding the middle portion, and you will have uniform slices.

In conclusion, we hope that these eight tips and tricks have been helpful to improve your experience with the Omnia. Happy cooking and happy baking.
