Unglaublich leckere DONAUWELLE & viel besser als gekauft 😍 Klassische Donauwelle leicht gemacht

Today we are making a classic, the delicious Donauwelle. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love it. It consists of a beautiful sponge cake with vanilla and chocolate, along with cherries, pudding buttercream, and a chocolate glaze.

To begin, we’ll need softened butter, eggs, sugar, baking powder, cocoa, vanilla extract or vanilla sugar, a little bit of milk, and cherries from a jar. For the sponge cake, we’ll use a stand mixer, though a hand mixer works just as well.

First, we’ll add the softened butter and sugar to the mixer. We’ll cream it until it becomes light and fluffy. We’ll then add the eggs one at a time, mixing them in until they’re combined. Next, we’ll add in a mixture of baking powder and flour, along with half of the cocoa mixture. We’ll mix this in on low speed.

Finally, we’ll add the remaining cocoa mixture, along with a little bit of milk to help loosen it up. This will make the batter have a fudgier texture. We’ll then pour the batter into a baking dish, with the cherries pushed into the top. We’ll bake it at 180 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes.

While the cake is baking, we’ll make our pudding buttercream. We’ll combine milk, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract in a pot, heating it until it reaches a boil. We’ll then stir in the butter and let it cool down to room temperature. Finally, we’ll push the buttercream through a sieve to remove any lumps.

Once the cake is done and has cooled down, we’ll spread the buttercream on top of it. We’ll then let it cool in the refrigerator for an hour. After this, we’ll melt the chocolate glaze and pour it on top of the cake, creating the waves on top with a fork.

Once the glaze has set, the Donauwelle is ready to serve. This traditional German dessert is perfect for any occasion and is sure to impress all those who try it. The combination of vanilla, chocolate, and cherries is a match made in heaven, and the buttercream adds a richness and creaminess that makes this cake irresistible. Try making it for your next get-together or special occasion - your guests will thank you!
