In today’s episode, you’ll learn how to make delicious homemade oven-baked donuts. The best part about this recipe is that we won’t be deep-frying the donuts, but baking them in the oven, which makes them a healthier alternative to traditional donuts.

To start, crumble half a cube of fresh yeast into a high container and pour in 200 milliliters of lukewarm milk. Stir the mixture together with a whisk or fork until the yeast has completely dissolved. Then, in a mixing bowl, combine the yeast-milk mixture with 500 grams of flour, 50 grams of soft butter, 50 grams of sugar, one sachet of vanilla sugar, one egg, and one teaspoon of salt. Knead the mixture together with a kitchen machine or by hand for about 4-5 minutes until a smooth dough forms. The dough should be detached from the bowl wall while kneading and should not stick to your fingers anymore.

Next, form the dough into a ball and lay it back into the mixing bowl. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and allow the dough to rest for 30-45 minutes or until it has doubled in volume. Once the dough has risen, slightly flour your countertop and give the dough onto the floured surface. Briefly knead the dough with your hands, flatten it a bit, and then roll it out with a rolling pin until it reaches a thickness of 1/2 to a maximum of 1 centimeter.

Now you can start cutting out your donuts. Use a coffee mug to cut out small circles first, and then use a shot glass to cut out a hole in the middle. Remove the excess dough and knead it together, roll it out again, and cut out more donuts. Place the done donuts on a lined baking tray, cover them with a kitchen towel, and allow them to rest for another 15-30 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat) and bake the donuts for 12-15 minutes until they are golden brown and beautifully risen. Once they are ready, take the donuts out of the oven and let them cool down a bit before decorating them.
