Gerichte aus der DDR: Achim Müller zeigt wie sie gehen | Abenteuer Leben | Kabel Eins

For thirty years, the DDR has been history, but the cuisine continues to live on with our Berlin chef Achim Müller as an expert in this field. He showcased his favorite DDR recipes, but first it was the kitchen intern Marcel’s turn. However, it’s summer and things are hot in here as young Peter Maffay would say. So, let’s get started with the Jägerschnitzel.

Marcel starts with pork medallions to bread, and Achim reminds him that it’s typical to use a thin slice of pork for this dish. Marcel makes a funny trick by offering Achim a larger slice to taste, hoping he’ll not notice the size difference. Achim decided to use the quickest tomato sauce recipe from Wetterau, and they both agree that it’s delicious. They finish with the presentation, and the dish looks perfect.

Next, they prepare Eco-Fund-Water, which is a DDR classic that Chef Achim masters perfectly. A twist in the recipe comes when instead of Kasseler, they use Leberkäse, another German deli meat. Marcel tries to make it even more savory by adding cheese and oregano. They put it in the oven and come out as a delicious dish ready to be enjoyed.

The next dish is a Soljanka, which is a stew made with various meats like pork and Kasseler, among others. Achim gives Marcel some tips, like adding the right amount of water, to make his version perfect. Achim likes to add sour gherkins to make it more flavorful, and Marcel seems to be pleased with the final result.

For a sweet finish, they prepare a dessert called Verlorene Eier, which means lost eggs. It’s a simple recipe where eggs are poached in water mixed with paprika. The eggs swim in the paprika broth, which gives them a delicious blend of flavors.

To sum up, Achim Müller is a proud ambassador of DDR cuisine, and he is passionate about sharing this unique culture with Berliners, Germans and everyone interested in trying something different. He is a chef with a mission!
