I intentionally do not add any other spices to the mix, as the taste of the onions alone is perfect for the dish. I have a fondness for using a German brand of apple juice to mix with the effervescence of the soda, as it adds a unique flavor to the drink.
Now that the onions are sliced and the sweet mustard sauce is made, it’s time to prepare the burgers. I add some ground beef to a bowl and mix it with some breadcrumbs, a pinch of salt, and some pepper. I then form the burgers into balls and grill them to perfection.
After the burgers are cooked, I grab some buns and add the marinated onions to them. I then place the burgers on top and add some sliced pickles for extra crunch. Now it’s time to put it all together and let the flavors marry. I place the burgers in the fridge for a few hours to let the flavors meld together.
