Now, let’s get down to business. Here’s the recipe I used:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 3-4 tablespoons milk
- Food coloring, if desired
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, milk, and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Drop dough by spoonfuls onto prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until just golden brown on the edges. Allow to cool completely before decorating.
- In a small bowl, whisk together confectioners’ sugar and milk until smooth. Add food coloring, if desired. Dip or drizzle Amerikaners with icing and allow to set before serving.
