Now onto the real recipe, a yummy Hefezopf. This traditional German pastry is a type of sweet bread that is baked into a braided shape. It’s best served warm and is perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Hefezopf mit Weizenmehl und Trockenhefe
Ingredients:
- 500g Weizenmehl
- 1 Prise Salz
- 60g Zucker
- 1 Packung Trockenhefe
- 80g Butter
- 250ml Milch
- 1 Ei
Instructions:
- Combine the flour, salt, sugar, and dry yeast in a large bowl.
- Melt the butter and then add it to the dry ingredients.
- Warm the milk and then add it to the bowl. Mix everything together.
- Let the dough rise for about an hour.
- Then, knead the dough and separate into two equal pieces. Roll the pieces into long strands and then braid them together.
- Add the egg wash to the top of the bread.
- Bake the bread for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Voila! You now have a delicious Hefezopf to share with your loved ones. Pro tip: try serving it with some homemade jam or Nutella. Enjoy!
Hefezopf mit Mehl und warme Milch
Ingredients:
- 500g Mehl
- 1 Prise Salz
- 80g Zucker
- 1 Packung Trockenhefe
- 250ml warme Milch
- 80g Butter
- 1 Ei
Instructions:
- Add the flour, salt, sugar, and dry yeast to a large bowl.
- Heat up the butter and then add it to the dry ingredients.
- Slightly warm the milk and then pour it into the bowl with everything else. Mix everything together.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
- Leave it to rise for about an hour in a warm spot.
- Roll the dough into three equal strands and then braid them together.
- Use the egg wash to give the bread a nice shine.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Once it’s done, let it cool before serving.
Enjoy your delicious Hefezopf with a steaming cup of coffee or tea.

- Mix in the warm water until it forms a dough.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
- Let the dough rise for an hour in a warm spot.
- Divide the dough into three equal parts and roll them out into strands.
- Braid the strands together and then let it rise for another 15 minutes.
- Add the egg wash to give it color and then bake for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Once it’s done, let it cool before serving.
