Wow, y’all gonna love this Sauerkraut Apple Casserole recipe I found. It’s perfect for Fall season and super easy to make. Let’s get to it, fam.
Casserole No. 1
Ingredients:
- 1 can of sauerkraut (14 ounces)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 apples, peeled and diced
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon of caraway seeds (optional)
- 1 cup of bread crumbs
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Drain sauerkraut and rinse with cold water. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, sauté onions in 1 tablespoon of butter until they are tender.
- Add apples, sugar and caraway seeds. Cook until apples are tender.
- In a casserole dish, layer half of the sauerkraut, apple mixture and bread crumbs. Repeat layers.
- Melt the remaining butter and pour over the top layer of bread crumbs.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes or until the bread crumbs are golden brown.
Casserole No. 2
Ingredients:
- 1 can of sauerkraut (28 ounces)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 Cabanossi sausages, sliced
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup of flour
- 2 cups of beef broth
- 1 tablespoon of paprika
- 1 tablespoon of caraway seeds
- 1/2 cup of sour cream
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a skillet, sauté onion in vegetable oil until tender, then add Cabanossi sausages and brown on both sides.
- Add paprika, caraway seeds and flour.
- Cook until flour is browned.
- Slowly add beef broth while stirring constantly, until it thickens.
- Add sauerkraut and stir well.
- Transfer mixture to a casserole dish and bake for 45 minutes
- Remove from oven and stir in sour cream.
Casserole No. 3
Ingredients:
- 1 can of sauerkraut (28 ounces)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 pound of smoked ham, chopped
- 1 can of diced tomatoes (14 ounces)
- 1 tablespoon of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a skillet, sauté onion until tender.
- Add smoked ham, diced tomatoes, paprika, thyme, oregano, black pepper and salt.
- Stir well and cook for 5 minutes.
- Add sauerkraut and stir well.
- Transfer mixture to a casserole dish and bake for 45 minutes.
Casserole No. 4
Ingredients:
- 4 pork steaks
- 2 teaspoons of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon of dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 head of red cabbage, thinly sliced
- 2 Granny Smith apples, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup of red wine vinegar
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Mix paprika, garlic powder, thyme, rosemary, salt and black pepper in a small bowl.
- Rub mixture on both sides of pork steaks.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add pork steaks.
- Sear for 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Transfer pork steaks to a baking dish and bake for 20 minutes.
- In a large bowl, whisk together red wine vinegar, olive oil, honey and salt.
- Add red cabbage and apples to the bowl and toss to coat.
- Remove pork steaks from oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
- Serve with apple-red cabbage salad on the side.
Casserole No. 5
Ingredients:
- 1 can of sauerkraut (14 ounces)
- 4 potatoes, peeled and grated
- 2 apples, peeled and grated
- 1 onion, grated
- 2 tablespoons of butter, melted
- 1/4 cup of bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup of sour cream (optional)
- 1/2 cup of grated Swiss cheese (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Drain sauerkraut and rinse with cold water. Drain and set aside.
- Grate potatoes, apples and onion and mix together in a bowl.
- Add melted butter and mix well.
- Layer half of the potato mixture, sauerkraut and bread crumbs in a casserole dish. Repeat layers.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the bread crumbs are golden brown.
- Optional: add a dollop of sour cream and sprinkle with grated Swiss cheese before serving.
